This pdf article “If I'd wanted to study, I would have gone to a real college” by Tony Kuphaldt describes itself as a 'treatise on learning to learn'. Put another way it's a short case study on replacing the 'present an incredible amount of information in a short time, and hope that the student's retain at least some of it' pedagogical model with one in which students learn to monitor and respond to their own learning needs. The title of the article is a quote from one of the students who had some initial difficulties adapting to the new expectations. Some of the ingredients for successful learning are presented here as, stimulating problems and scenarios, questions and sample problems, resources to discover their own solutions, and no assigned reading. But we're doing all this anyway … aren't we? Grounded in reality, identifies the key elements for developing independent learning programmes … worth a read.
