Whilst Digital Rights Management, IPR etc etc are important there are people who want to share their creative work and who want others to reuse, modify, and distribute their work but with protection against abuse or mis-representation. Creative Commons which is based at Stanford Law School was founded in 2001 for just this reason. It is devoted to expanding the range of creative work available for others to build upon and share. Creative Commons offers a range of licenses and a content portal.
