Having just read Derek Morrison's article on ATutor and in particular the ability to export IMS conformant 'chunks' of content I decided to test this out. In a previous article of mine, Standards whose Standards?, I tried to export so-called IMS compliant material from Blackboard and WebCT and import into the Reload IMS conformant editor. This failed. So can ATutor perform any better? If you want to know read on! I used the demo course, 'XML' in ATutor, for the test. A screenshot of the first section of chapter 1 in ATutor is shown below.
On using ATutor's Export Content link the chapter was zipped up and offered to me as a download. I then opened the zip file in the CETIS Reload Editor with no hiccups. Reload allows a preview of the content. Below is a screenshot of the same section of the imported chapter, but this time as viewed in Reload.
A successful result. This does show that content in ATutor is not 'locked in'. I did attempt to upload the ATutor zip file into a Blackboard course but, as in my previous attempts, this failed.
