In a previous article eBeam me up Scotty - Drat, the lights have gone out! I highlighted the problem of different technologies interacting negatively. In our case the eBeam system in some of our teaching rooms was in electronic 'dispute' with our automatic lighting system. We now have a solution. Auricle, unexpectedly, played its part. Many of our general teaching rooms, in the interest of saving energy, have recently had light sensors installed. The problem is that the light sensors also use ultrasonic radar to detect movement and, as a result, this interfered with the eBeam whiteboard system and effectively made the board unusable.
A new representative for the company which supplied our eBeam system read the Auricle article. He promptly contacted the University to see if he could be of assistance. After a brief exchange of emails and a download of the latest ebeam software we now have a system that is stable and the room lights stay on! So my thanks to the excellent service from our eBeam supplier and to Auricle for reaching the audience that only weblogs can reach:)
